A Hunter's Dream: Decorating for My Dad's Birthday

With my dad's birthday approaching, my mom and I knew we wanted to create a beautiful and fun celebration for him. We decided to incorporate his love of hunting and the outdoors into our meal and party decor.

First, the meal. Dad goes quail hunting almost every weekend and always brings some back with him. We asked the chef at our favorite restaurant to create a dish using the quail, and he made two of the most delicious dishes I've ever had!

For dish one, he wrapped the quail in bacon, baked them, then drizzled them with a raspberry reduction. For the second dish, he stuffed the quail with oysters and andouille sausage to create a "death by gumbo" version of quail. So yummy and Dad was thrilled that we served his favorite dish.

Next, we decorated the table with a natural, outdoorsy feel to it. The chargers were a muted brown from Pier One (somewhat pricey at $7.95 each, but they looked fantastic). We then tied the napkins with raffia and stuck bird feathers (all from Hobby Lobby) in the knots of the raffia. It gave boring white napkins such funky flair!

The candles and candlesticks that served as our centerpieces were also from Pier One and we intertwined burlap ribbon in between them to add some visual interest. The color palette included all of my dad's favorite colors, and everything looked sensational. We were so pleased about the way it all came together and Dad was over the moon excited!
