My New Year's Resolutions for My Home

It's a new year, and with a new year, there are resolutions to be made! I've decided not to make any resolutions regarding weight loss, self-improvement, or self-education, but rather to resolve to make my home a more comfortable and welcoming place in which to dwell.

These are my home resolutions for 2014…

1. Spend ten minutes at the end of the day putting things away, sorting through mail, throwing out junk, and bringing some semblance of order to my surroundings.

2. Embrace the aspects of my home that I'm not crazy about. There's a wall between my kitchen and dining room that I would love to knock out, but that involves a contractor, new flooring, and a whole mess of work that I have neither the time nor resources for currently. Instead, I resolve to make a gallery wall of my favorite paintings to make the most of that darn wall.

3. Try new do-it-yourself projects that I've been hesitant to try because they look too difficult or time-consuming. For example, I want to slipcover an old chair and make unique side tables for my bedroom.

4. Infuse my mostly neutral color palette with bursts of cheerful color. This can be done by adding pillows, throw rugs, and tabletop accessories in vibrant shades. If I get tired of them, I can re-cover them or switch them out!

5. Lastly, I want to entertain more. I know it may seem like I'm always hosting some sort of soiree, but I want to have more girls' nights with wine and popcorn, more couples' game nights with appetizers and desserts. If I'm going to love and embrace my home more, I need to open it up for others to love, too!

  1. I love #5! Peyton and I are ready for Downton viewing parties :) Also, I need to show you my gallery wall of photos from Paris, Nice, and Italy that I did on canvas (on the wall between by kitchen and dining room that I'm not crazy about - ha!).
